Welcome to the Traisental wine region
The Traisental wine region lies on the banks of the Traisen, in the catchment area between St. Pölten, Tulln and Krems. The region is the best proof that even the finest wines can come from the Mostviertel. Along pleasant cycling and walking routes, visitors are treated to impressive views of the picturesque cellar lanes, vineyards and the banks and floodplains of the Traisen.
The geographical centre of Lower Austria lies in its smallest wine-growing region, the Traisental. Here, wine is grown across 815 hectares, which accounts for 3% of Lower Austria’s total vineyard area.
3,600 years of wine-growing history provide the fertile ground for the dynamic growth of Lower Austria’s smallest wine-growing region. Here, at the foot of the Alpine foothills, fresh, top-quality cool-climate wines are produced on limestone-rich soils. Predominantly young winemakers characterise the prevailing spirit of optimism; they run small-scale estates and have grand visions. Working closely together, they are also developing solutions to respond to climate change and are structuring their vineyards to be sustainable.
