The Schwarzau im Gebirge Nature Park is probably one of the smallest in the chain of Lower Austrian nature parks, but also one of the most beautiful.
The nature park was created in 1972 on the initiative of the municipality of Schwarzau im Gebirge and the nature conservation department of the province of Lower Austria, and has since been expanded with various facilities. It is located on the western slope of the Falkenstein and can be reached in a few minutes from the town centre and is worth a visit for amateur photographers, walkers and hikers. The actual nature park covers an area of approx. 14 hectares. From the flat area on the banks of the Schwarza, to gently sloping hillsides and steep rocky regions, the area contains all the conceivably favourable conditions for such a facility. Natural meadows, high forest, rockfalls and waterfalls offer a typical cross-section of the Rax - Schneeberg region in small format.
