Hiking - Cycling - Climbing - Boat trips in Saxon Switzerland!

Saxon Switzerland is one of the most popular holiday regions in
Saxony. If you want to be active on your holiday - this is the place for you. Cycling on the Elbe cycle path, hiking along the Malerweg - or a lively boat trip on the Elbe - explore the wonderful nature in the Elbe Sandstone Mountains at any time of year. The Elbe Sandstone Mountains - consisting of the parts of Saxon Switzerland and Bohemian Switzerland - is one of the most spectacular natural and cultural landscapes in Europe.

The national park has more to offer than just its unique flora and fauna or the breathtakingly beautiful landscape. There are (many) more reasons to hike or climb peaks here. Over 1,200 km of hiking trails ranging from tranquil to thrilling in the national park region alone and around 1,100 climbing peaks with more than 15,000 different climbing routes can be found in the birthplace of free climbing.

The region is famous for its table mountains. Nowhere else in the world
are these rare and fascinating landscape forms as dense and
dense and numerous as here! The bizarre rock sculptures, gloomy gorges and jungle-like ravines fire the imagination. The picturesque natural wonder inspired Romantic artists to create important works. Among the most famous are Caspar David Friedrich's ‘Wanderer above the Sea of Fog’, Carl Maria von Weber's ‘Der Freischütz’ and Richard Wagner's ‘Lohengrin’.

The region is considered the cradle of climbing. In 1864, the
Falkenstein was conquered here for the first time for sporting reasons. To this day, the Saxon climbing rules are considered the most demanding in the world.

Saxon Switzerland is not only a top destination for active holidaymakers
active holidaymakers, but also an ambitious nature conservation project. The most sensitive areas of the region have been protected as a national park since 1990.
protected as a national park. The close interweaving of nature conservation and tourism characterises the region. A network of national park authorities, tourism associations, national park partners, transport companies, local authorities and committed hosts are working to transform Saxon Switzerland into a prime example of gentle, sustainable tourism in Germany.
