Walking, playing and discovering nature with all your senses: the Playful Hiking Trail connects Piesendorf and Niedernsill and turns a simple walk into a relaxed family day out full of variety and shared experiences.

Stretching for around six kilometres, the Playful Hiking Trail links the two certified Austrian Hiking Villages of Piesendorf and Niedernsill on an almost flat route. Following the Salzach valley, the easy path invites you to stop along the way at 12 creative nature play stations - perfect for jumping, balancing, exploring and trying things out together.

Nature becomes an interactive experience along the trail. Children learn in a playful way about the importance of water, flood protection and nature conservation. At the same time, the landscape tells its own story: the Naglköpfl, a historic place of power, is clearly visible and reflects the area’s Celtic past.

At the end of your walk, two refreshing spots await: the Niedernsill natural bathing lake and the Hinkelstein outdoor pool in Piesendorf - ideal for cooling off after an active day. The result is a varied outing that combines movement, nature and quality time together.

Additional information

The trail is accessible all year round. The play stations are available from May until the end of October or early November, depending on weather and snow conditions.

Please note:
Dogs are not permitted on the section between the Niedernsill wastewater treatment plant and the Hummersdorf bridge in Piesendorf.
