The Vimpelinlampi trail, partly renewed in summer 2022, is an easily accessible recreation area near the centre of Kajaani. The wide, flat trail with few altitude differences is also suitable for people with reduced mobility and families with prams. The trail is suitable for walking and running, Nordic Walking and relaxed cycling. At the shore of pond Vimpelinlampi you will find a fireplace and a grilling hut, a sand beach and a beach volleyball court. To ensure an enjoyable break, bring your own firewood. There are several points of entry and exit on the trail around the pond. The route can be circulated in both directions.

The round trail around the pond can be circled in both directions, but the steepest climbs can be avoided by going counter-clockwise. The route follows the shoreline of the Vimpelinlampi pond and leads back to the starting point.

From the centre of Kajaani, about 2.5 km along Lönnrotinkatu street towards Lohtaja district. The parking area is located at the intersection of Lönnrotinkatu and Rysätien on the left side.
The nearest public bus stop is opposite the starting point.

Vimpelinlampi can be reached using the city's pedestrian and bicycle trails.
At the south side of Vimpelinlampi pond you can fin the "hidden" Pieni-Vimpelinlampi pond, which also has a fireplace and swimming pier.
