Vast forests, breathtaking views and a varied programme – the Thayatal National Park is a unique nature reserve in the north of Lower Austria. It protects one of the last near-natural valley landscapes in Central Europe, which boasts an impressive variety of habitats and species.

For example, the shy wildcat roams the woods, the otter plays in the water and the black stork flies over the Thaya. Over 100 km of hiking trails wind through the cross-border nature reserve on the border with the Czech Republic, whilst spectacular viewpoints, such as the new “Umlaufblick” observation tower, offer sweeping views across the hills and forests of the Thaya Valley.

The hiking trails in the national park are accessible all year round.
