Iron Road Lower Austria

Visitors can walk, hike and cycle along the Iron Route of Lower Austria in the footsteps of fire, water, earth, wood and metal. Located in the Mostviertel region in the south-west of Lower Austria, it connects the gently rolling hills with the alpine world of the Ybbstal Alps.

The three nature parks Buchenberg, NÖ Eisenwurzen and Ötscher-Tormäuer, as well as the Dürrenstein-Lassingtal wilderness area, teach visitors how to treat nature with care. The region also has a lot to offer nature lovers, from fantastic alpine hikes with refreshment stops at alpine huts to alpine mountain tours on the Ötscher, Hochkar or Dürrenstein. When the snow covers the Eisenstraße in winter, the region's skiing and cross-country skiing areas also attract visitors.

The Königsberg around Hollenstein an der Ybbs is a paradise for mountain bikers in particular, with a network of 270 kilometres of trails. Downhill and freeride action and adrenaline are guaranteed in the bike park at Königspark.

Cycling enthusiasts can cycle away from the mountains along the Ybbstal Cycle Path and the Erlauftal Cycle Path through the fascinating landscape, which still bears witness to a bygone era when blacksmiths, hammer masters and woodcutters lived in the region. Blacksmithing courses and demonstrations are still held in the old forges today, while the Mendlingtal Adventure World features hammer mills, drift systems and chasms to marvel at.
