Today's museum building "Hoamathaus" was first mentioned around 1408 and initially served as accommodation for the miners who mined ore in our area, especially in Flachau.
Later, this house was used in the center of Altenmarkt as a home for the elderly, popularly called "Bruderhaus".
It was not until 1970, when a new retirement home was built, that the Bruderhaus was turned into the current local history museum, which was expanded again in 1998.
A farmer's room and a smokehouse, the crib room, the marksmen's room, a sacral room, a school class, the bathers' room, the traditional costume room and a Perchten room offer the visitor an interesting overview of the life and culture of our ancestors.
One of the real gems in our museum of local history is the "Grundnerkrippe", which is over 250 years old. This unique nativity scene, created in Altenmarkt, delights visitors young and old.
In order to also be able to show large agricultural equipment and tools, another very extensive museum was built in the Dechantshof barn in 1981.
