Human influences are everywhere in the Reserve: the very creation of the wetland has an anthropogenic origin. In 1929, the artificial lakes of Crava and Morozzo were created for hydroelectric purposes - they are still maintained thanks to two state-of-the-art power plants - and have gradually renaturalized. In addition to the two artificial basins, there are four ponds of varying depths. The richness of these wetlands has favored the settlement of numerous bird species, including the coot and the little grebe, and, at the same time, has created an ideal resting place for many migratory species, such as the gray heron, the purple heron, the night heron, and the black-winged stilt. During the winter, great cormorants are abundant.
The area features the welcoming La Foresteria dell'Oasi accommodation facility and a visitor center managed by LIPU (Italian League for the Protection of Birds).
The nature trail and the bike path
From Morozzo, descend towards the Foresteria on a dirt path that is accessible to wheelchairs, strollers, and bicycles. Disabled visitors can start from the entrance at the "Cappone di Morozzo" roundabout. Continue along the main road; just beyond the submerged hut, take the path that leads to Crava. For the return journey, you can use the provincial road, creating a loop of approximately 6 km.Recommended season: All year round.
