Right at the beginning of the tour, hikers will come across the old town of Limburg which has been preserved from the 12th century to almost full extent. Enthroned on a rock is the town´s landmark Limburg Cathedral with its seven towers. Although you might not want to leave Limburg behind, what is about to come is definitely worth it. The massive castle above the lock as well as the old bridge are two of the most fascinating aspects of the town of Runkel. Being above the Wehrley nature reserve might also be a nice spot. The "Wehrley" has been a nature reserve since 1978. At the end of this tour you will come across the new Lahn Marmor Museum in Villmar.
Through the meadows of the Lahn you will continue your way to the community of Eschhofen. Behind Eschhofen you will get the chance to have a look across the river Lahn at the gigantic church St. Lubentius Basilika in the village of Dietkirchen. The wide forest trail will turn into a narrow path shortly before Runkel which leads past the Blücher entrenchment. Runkel is another medieval town in the collection and visitors should definitely make sure to visit the enormous castle.
Walking across the old bridge and thereby crossing the Lahn, you will walk up to the Otto-Bruchhäuser-Tempel which is a viewing pavilion that is situated high above the Lahn. The trail will now turn into a path and will lead hikers on a way that runs above the Wehrley nature reserve. To your right, you will find a short detour that leads to a worthwhile viewpoint with a view across the river over the Bodensteiner Lay and the King-Konrad-Denkmal. Along the yellow-marked access road we descend to the village of Villmar. We would recommend a visit to the new Lahn-Marmor-Musuem as well as the Unica marble quarry.
Ordinary hiking equipment required. Take backpack vespers and drinks with you.
