Maxvorstadt - turning grey into green

From the Siegestor you walk along Ludwigsstraße for 200 meters to reach Professor-Huber-Platz. There you turn left into Veterinärstraße, walk along it to the end, where you finally reach the English Garden. Here you follow the path to a slight left turn and then turn right onto the path leaving on the right. After the bridge over the Schwabinger brook, follow the slightly left path that leads you past the Monopteros. Here you can go on the Monopteros or follow the path over the bridge over the Entenvolierebach. Here, one turns left and walks straight towards the Chinese Tower. Afterwards, one turns around, walks the way back to the bridge of the Entenvolierebach, but this time never the way left of the Monopteros. Follow this path for about two kilometres, crossing again a bridge over the Entenvolierebach, passing the Japanese Teahouse and finally reaching the Prinzregentenstraße. Cross this road in walking direction and then directly cross the next big road, the Franz-Joseph-Strauß-Ring. Arriving on the other side, one arrives directly at the right side of the Hofgarten via the small path, from where one goes to the centre of the Hofgartentempel. From the court garden temple, one goes to the left side of the court garden, thus, one passes the residence and after a few metres, one gets through the gate to the Odeonsplatz. Turn left here, walk along Residenzstraße and you will find the entrance to the Residenz at the level of Feldherrnhalle. After having been in the courtyard of the Residenz, one goes back to the Residenzstraße and walks straight over the Odeonsplatz towards the Theatinerkirche. Turn right here and after a few metres you come to Brienner Straße, which you walk along on the right side of the road. After a few metres you will find Wittelsbacherplatz on your right. Then walk along Brienner Straße for 100 metres until you reach the large crossroads. Here you cross the Oskar-von-Miller-Ring and walk 150 meters along the Brienner Straße until you finally turn into the Türkenstraße. Follow Türkenstraße until it joins Gabelsbergerstraße, where you turn left into Gabelsbergerstraße. Follow the road for 400 metres until you reach the intersection with Arcisstraße. Here, you first cross Gabelsbergerstraße, so that you are now on the right side of the road. Then you cross Arcisstraße and follow it for about 100 meters until you reach the entrance of the Technical University. Here, one goes up the steps and walks through the small inner courtyard into the building. Then take the left corridor to the very end, turn right there and take one of the two elevators to the 5th floor and you will come out directly at Café Vorhoelzer.

It is recommended to wear comfortable shoes and clothes suitable for the weather and to take care of sun and rain protection. If necessary, food, drinking water and a city map can also be taken along.

The Siegestor is located at the transition from Leopoldstraße to Ludwigstraße. Since the city centre is a pedestrian zone, the best way to get to the Siegestor from this direction is via Brienner Straße, which leads into Ludwigstraße at Odeonsplatz and leads directly to Siegestor. Coming from the north of Munich or the motorway, you drive from the Petueltunnel onto Leopoldstraße, which then also leads directly to the Siegestor.

Something to eat can be found in the Milchhäusl (organic beer garden), the beer garden at the Chinese Tower, the Tambosi at the Hofgarten and in Café Vorhoelzer.
