“Follow ground squirrels with us” Nature Trail

The nature trail will take you from the town of Tisovec, across the fields below Hradová to the European ground squirrels´ nesting site in Podhrad. You will learn how the meadows were created and why human activity is still necessary for their preservation. The trail will introduce you to the history of sheep breeding, which was an important source of livelihood for many Tisov inhabitants in the past and the importance of maintaining this traditional way of livelihood today. It will also introduce you to interesting facts about the life of the European ground squirrel - once abundant, but now a rare and forgotten inhabitant of meadows and pastures.
